This piece is a mournful prayer sung to God as one faces trials. Deeply deceived by everything life can bring, and hopelessness for anything that could save him/her, the song depicts a desperate person kneeling in a cathedral, in tears, and begging for God’s mercy.

My dearest friend I need Thy Grace and Mercy,

My life is vain, my dreams are fading,
My soul is blind, my heart is fool.
My hope is broken, my strength decreasing,
Lord, here is my prayer, hold my faith each day!
